CAPACITY-BUILDING WITH NONPROFIT
PARTNERS THROUGH SKILLED VOLUNTEERISM
Hands On’s nonpro昀椀 t partners are creating stronger communities by delivering on their
missions. While they bring deep expertise to the populations they serve, many organizations
lack in-depth technical knowledge that could help them be more effective.
Through Hands On’s Skilled Volunteerism program, organizations can access industry experts who
volunteer to share their skill set with local nonpro昀椀 ts. GeekCause connects technology
professionals with nonpro昀椀 ts that need support on short-term tech projects so organizations
can operate more ef昀椀 ciently. Volunteer Skill Match pairs nonpro昀椀 ts with volunteers across 67
different skill areas, ranging from professional services to trades. Through these programs,
nonpro昀椀 ts can connect with volunteers that help them improve operations, communications and
services to the community.
AbleVoices, a nonpro昀椀 t dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities through the art of
photography, partnered with GeekCause to lay the foundation for a stronger, more connected
future. Along with their GeekCause volunteer, AbleVoices is enhancing scalability, streamlining
work昀氀 ows, and ensuring staff and students have seamless access to shared resources, like
photos and documents. With a volunteer helping them to improve connectivity and device
management, AbleVoices will be better equipped to deliver its transformative programs and
amplify the voices of those it serves.
AbleVoices also tapped into Volunteer Skill Match to bring photography mentors to their Phun
Friday program, helping participants learn to select, edit and print their photos.
