THE FIFTH THIRD NEIGHBORHOOD PROGRAM
To support advancement of upward mobility for local residents, particularly those in
North Nashville, the Fifth Third Neighborhood Program is an economic development
initiative that takes a collective ecosystem approach to economic mobility. A
collaboration between the Mayor’s Of昀椀 ce, Fifth Third Bank, UWGN, Affordable Housing
Resources and Enterprise Community Partners, the initiative promotes small businesses,
develops healthy environments, creates more equitable systems and builds inclusive
civic infrastructure.
The Economic Mobility Action Team is a leadership team convened to guide and
strengthen the program. Its members–key leaders and practitioners deeply rooted
in North Nashville—bring extensive experience in community impact work, along
with a nuanced understanding of the neighborhood’s history, unique dynamics and
emerging opportunities.
Leveraging their knowledge of the local philanthropic ecosystem, members offer
valuable insight, help evaluate potential programs and projects, and provide strategic
direction. Their collective expertise supports informed decision-making around
aligned opportunities and drives efforts that advance upward mobility for residents of
North Nashville.
BREAKING BARRIERS, BUILDING FUTURES:
THE IMPACT OF SNAP EMPLOYMENT & TRAINING
The SNAP Employment & Training (E&T) program breaks down barriers to economic
stability by providing training programs and professional credentialing at no cost to
participants, while also connecting them directly to employment opportunities. Through
strategic partnerships and reinvestment of federal reimbursements, the program funds
essential support like child care and transportation, ensuring participants can fully
engage. By removing 昀椀 nancial obstacles and offering wraparound services, SNAP E&T
empowers vulnerable neighbors to gain in-demand skills, secure sustainable careers
and build brighter futures.
For many neighbors across Middle Tennessee and beyond, the SNAP E&T program is a
powerful catalyst for stability and hope. This year, SNAP E&T surpassed its goals, re昀氀 ecting
growing community engagement and life-changing impact.
The program successfully engaged 1,242 participants, with 871 completing their focused
training programs. These efforts led to tangible career advancement:
> 469 participants found employment, earning an impressive average hourly
wage of $17.71.
> 526 individuals earned professional credentials, opening doors to higher-wage
opportunities and long-term career stability.
